Provencher Bridge

Provencher Bridge

Provencher Bridge - The old bridge and it's deconstruction to the construction of the new bridge and how the new Provenche Bridge looks now.

The Provencher Bridge spans the Red River linking downtown Winnipeg with St. Boniface.

The 'old' bridge, the second bridge that was built here, was opened in 1918. The new third bridge was completed in September 2003 and is slightly curved, the old bridge was straight and sat at a slight angle.

The Esplanade Riel, is a separate foot traffic only bridge that is a side-spar cable-stayed bridge with a restaurant in the middle of it.

This was taken in February of 2003 on the west side of Provencher looking to the downtown. The new bridge is not yet finished, the picture was taken standing where the west bound lanes now sit. The Forks on the left side is still under developement.
